Who are we?

Kennel Magic Colour consists of the humans Jeannette & Peter and of the whippets Carla, Diba, Sille and Chili. Our passport says ”Danish”, but we have been living in Stockholm since 1997 and we almost consider us Swedes (if they just understood when we try to speak Swedish...).

Since 2003 we own a cottage in Småland (south of Sweden) that we intend to visit every third week.

Our spare time is of course much about the dogs, but after our move to the golf course, Peter is playing golf in Kallfors Golf Club. We humans have ordinary office jobs within the IT department of SEB Card Ltd. Half the time we work from home, so the dogs are home alone as little as possible.

Carla and Diba comes from Whippet breeder Airescot. Carla is from 2001 and Diba arrived in January 2003. Sille and Chili is our own breeding. Sille is from august 2006 and Chili is from november 2009. We visit Dog shows and compete in Lure Coursing. When the time allows we also practise agility and blood track.

Why Whippet?

During the 90'ies we spend most of our summer vacations in Estepona in Spain. Here an old friend of Jeannette had his boarding kennel. We met a lot of different dogs during our visits. But one dog was outstanding: "Carla" - a lovely whippet that came snoozing with us in the morning, but also showed her racing talent when the neighbours cat was chased (together with a French Bulldog - quite a sight). On one occasion she had puppies and now we were certain - if we ever should have a dog, it had to be a Whippet. And so it went 10 years later ... now we have our own "Carla".

Why breeding

When you have a dog you are satisfied with, you come to a point where you consider a puppy after this dog - this shaped the thought of starting as breeder.

After some studying you realise that its not a simple task to start breeding. But our passion is Whippets and we are prepared to use the required amount of time to become a responsible breeder. We plan to have a slow start and then become fulltime breeders when we retire from work (which we plan to do before normal retirement age so we have some mobility left to exercise the dogs). Jeannette is a former breeder of Afghan hound in Denmark, so she have prior breeder experience.

Breeding philosophy

During the time we have been in the "Whippet-world" there have been discussions of different parts of the Whippet Breed Standard. We have picked the following aspect to lead our breeding:

  • There should only exist one whippet type. It must be breed for both working and showing.
  • Temperament. A dog is with you for many years - we think it is important to breed whippets with gentle and reliable temperament.
  • Colour is not important. We will not have colour as a significant criteria in our breeding.
  • Size is important. We like our breeding to follow the breeding standard so the dog becomes the elegant dog a whippet is supposed to be.
